I have to insrt the network disk, when prompted to do so and then what?
Answer by Big John
Well you are making a network… not a peer to peer… and the next step is to put both computers on the same network name… that way they can find eachother easier… trust me its the easiest. You will have enough trouble just getting them to see eachother all the time.

I have a wireless router that is already set up on one computer, and I have a wireless network access card. How do I put another computer in the network?
Answer by mujahid786
I assume you are running win2k/xp.
First can you see the other computers on your network?
If Yes, skip the next step.
If No, ensure that all are in the same work group or domain, Right click My Computer, Network Identification, the Work group should be the same on all computers, click Properties and update as required.
You’ll need to Restart you computer if changes were required.
Turn off windows and other software firewalls, for now and when you turn them back on some configuration may be required.
You should now be seeing the other computers on your network.
You may need to Login to the other computers, depending on you settings for that computer.
To share folders right click on the folder you want to share and enable file sharing. When successful you should a hand under the folder.
GOODLUCK

I need to network 12 computers to one printer. They run on Windows XP. I haven’t networked a printer before so I don’t know what all details to give. If anyone can give me a clue as to what to do I would appriciate it.
Answer by computer_surplus2005
1st thing you need to do is right click the my computer icon and go to properties and then computer name and make sure all of the computers are on the same network name. You can change this to anyname you wish. Then the printer (with drivers and all) must be installed on 1 computer. If the 12 computers are on a network already then it is very simple you have to go to start /settings/printers and then select install printer and choose the network printer to install. If they are not already networked together then you will need a router to connect the computers together. You will also need a network hub if you wish to network more that 12 computers together. It pretty straight forward to do you can find you more @ http://www.ehow.com/how_108552_network-computers.html…Thanks

I am using the AT&T “2 wire” wireless router. I have an HP printer that is already connected to the one downstairs. I made that printer a shared printer, but the other computer still isn’t detecting it on the network. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Answer by John L
Well, you’re using a netBIOS network, so make sure both your computers are on the same workgroup.

I’ve got a laptop with 802.11n wireless, a desktop with gigabit ethernet and a dsl-g604t wireless adsl router with 4 ethernet ports. Can i use file and printer sharing by connecting the router to the desktop by cable, and the laptop through wireless, or would i only get internet?
Answer by Starrysky
Yes, you can have file and printer sharing using a cable to the desktop, and wireless to the laptop, and Internet on both machines as well. That is what routers do so well.

I have two desktop computers networked and sharing internet together with router and ethernet cable. I went this way as they had previously been networked wirelessly, but this was very unreliable and down often. Anyway, the two now networked together flawlessly, no problems. I just purchased a Dell laptop with built in wireless card and a Linksys router. Any suggestions how to connect my three units together without taking out the ethernet cable system I already have in place?? Thanks! Bob
Please note, I forgot to mention Linksys router I bought for laptop is Wireless.
Answer by imsurfing2000
Try putting it all on a switch.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer right now. It was pre-loaded on the machine. I’d like to upgrade it to Windows 7. I am also planning on buying a Mac. Will I be able to load the Windows 7 upgrade version on that also? Thanks in advance for your help.
Answer by Tired Trucker
not the upgrade, you will need the full install. The upgrade is for computers that all ready have windows installed.

I live in an apartment with 3 other roommates where all of us are connected to the internet through a wireless router. I also have a desktop and laptop computer, both with wireless adapters.
How can I setup just my two computers on a network so I can share files between them, and still stay connected to the internet, and without my roommates able to hop onto my network?
Answer by jimmymae2000
No can do, what’s a matter, no honor among roommates?

I have a Canon MP830 and recently reformatted and now can’t get my network printer to share properly. I have SP3 on the main computer hooked up to the printer and the laptop trying to access it is service pack 2. Do I need to have Service Pack 3 on both computers?
Answer by Tracy L
Check the FIREWALL on the “reformatted” machine. That will keep File and printer sharing from working. If you can share files, then you can share the printer.
The service packs won’t normally have any bad effect so no they do not need to be the same.
You do need the printer drivers on both machines. But you should be able to find and see the printer in the Network first.

I want to link up two computers, via a wireless PC to PC network (we already know how to get it that far), but I do not know how to send messages, like using some variation of an IM. How do I do that?
I need to send messages between PCs, not get into one from the other. Like an IM without using the internet, just between two PCs
Answer by Chulan
Hey,
there is way but i heard it is unsafe other people use it to get into a pc, well if u stilll need it go to www.youtube.com search remote desktop and there will be tutorial how to message in it

I have 3 computers currently running on a home network. All 3 systems are connected via a router, and are receiving IP addresses properly through the DCHP. This gets really complicated here. The main system is runnig two NIC cards, so two IP addresses. From the main PC I cannot Ping either the Laptop, or the second system. From the Laptop, I can ping both IP addresses on the main, however I cannot connect to the workgroup. From the laptop I cannot Ping secondary computer. From the secondary computer I can ping both IP address on the main, and the main system is visible on the network. From the secondary computer I cannot ping the laptop.
Confusing I know. Bascially only the secodnary computer recognizes any other system on the network. All systems have the 3 basic components installed, All 3 are in the same workgroup, and all 3 have File sharing enabled.
Any idea, because I am going crazy.
