I have an older computer that I put Ubunutu 9.10 on only to find that my Lexmark x3430 printer has become a paper weight with it. Would it be possible for me to connect to this printer from a Windows 7 laptop over my network? It seems to me that for the printer sharing to work, the proper print drivers have to be on the Linux machine, but that’s either not possible, or I just can’t do it. Any advice?

Hmmmm… not sure.
Usually you can’t really use a network printer with 2 different operating systems trying to communicate with each other. You either need to get some sort of compatibility program for Ubuntu, such as Wine (which, in my opinion, would be WAY too much work) or you could just transfer the file(s) you need printed over using a flash drive. Sorry, but print servers are usually only designed to communicate with clients with the same operating system.
Do I need to re-install all of my old hardware (the things that the computer store usually installs for you at first.) Do i have to reinstall my motherboard and processor and sound card (etc) to enable them to be compatible with windows 7? Yeah, upgrading from windows xp sucks.

This model PCG-K115B(GB) 01 sony va10 is frustratingly difficult to deal with and I have been trying to update the video drivers following re installing xp pro and sp2 to connect it to a network as it is the only pc in it that gives such a lot of trouble.It now connects but the screen is wiggling and it says that I need to re install the manufacturers video drivers.I cannot do it through sonys useless site as it says the model does not exist.Is there a genuinely free update driver website as I have been led a merry marketing dance with the likes of”driver guide”,don’t go there!!Thanks for any help which is usually great from the community
